Bluegum Dubbo — accommodation for the Dubbo Show and Dubbo Stampede
Why stay with us · Show + Stampede

Dubbo Show.
Dubbo Stampede.

Two of Dubbo's biggest community weekends: the Dubbo Show in May (rides, livestock judging, showbags, evening entertainment) and the Dubbo Stampede in August (a running festival around the zoo and the Macquarie River precinct). Both tighten accommodation noticeably across the city. Bluegum is in central Dubbo — the Showground is a short drive, and we're 4.9 km from the zoo where the Stampede is centred.

Why Bluegum works for the Show weekend

The Show runs over Show weekend each May. For families and regional exhibitors, Bluegum's location means: short drive to the Showground for evening entertainment, easy walk to Quay Street and the CBD restaurants when the showbag-and-rides day wraps up, free undercover parking when you get back, and a kitchenette in every room for unwinding with a quiet supper.

Why Bluegum works for the Stampede

The Stampede is centred at Taronga Western Plains Zoo — 4.9 km / 8 minutes by car from Bluegum. That's a five-minute pre-race coffee at Good Brew across the road, an easy drive to the start line, and back to the saltwater pool by lunchtime to soak tired legs. Family supporters get the same proximity advantage. Every room has a kitchenette for the carb-load breakfast and the recovery snacks.

Show + Stampede — common questions.

When is the Dubbo Show?
Usually May. The biggest traditional community event of the year — rides, showbags, livestock judging, competitions, evening entertainment. Family visitors, regional exhibitors, and a noticeable lift in city-wide occupancy.
What's the Dubbo Stampede?
August. A large running festival centred around Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the Macquarie River precinct. Draws runners and supporters from across NSW and interstate. Distance options, family-friendly course atmosphere, and a real lift in weekend hotel demand around the zoo.
How early should I book for the Show or Stampede?
Both events tighten Dubbo accommodation across the city. Dubbo Show (May): book 6–10 weeks ahead. Dubbo Stampede (August): 4–8 weeks ahead is usually enough but earlier is better.
Is Bluegum near the Showground?
Yes — central Dubbo, with the Showground a short drive from the property. Easy in-and-out for evening Show entertainment, and good walking-distance access to Quay Street and the CBD restaurants when the Show day wraps up.
Is Bluegum near the Stampede course?
Yes — we're 4.9 km / about 8 minutes by car from Taronga Western Plains Zoo, where the Stampede is centred. Ideal for an early race-morning start and a saltwater-pool recovery in the afternoon.
